THE ORION EXPERIENCE‘S HOMAGE TO CLASSIC POP SONGWRITING & ‘BOOGIE WONDERLAND’-ERA DISCO ON NYC GIRL SET FOR APRIL 19, 2011 RELEASE

N.Y. Fans Can Purchase CD Early At March 2 Mercury Lounge Show with New York Record Release Show To-Be-Confirmed Shortly

LOS ANGELES, CA (Wednesday, February 23, 2011) – The Orion Experience (http://theorionexperience.com), an underground indie band whose legion of fans include Rachael Ray, Perez Hilton and Lady Gaga, announced today that they will be self-releasing a 5-song E.P. entitled NYC Girl on April 19, 2011.

NYC Girl will be sold digitally at all major online retailers, while it will be physically available only at live shows and will be available early for $7 to fans who attend their show at The Mercury Lounge (217 East Houston St New York, NY) on Wednesday, March 2 at 8 pm.

The Orion Experience has made their mark with superbly crafted pop songwriting and irresistible hooks.  Praised in the past for their irreverence and enthusiasm both live and on record, the band showcases their orchestration and songwriting abilities on NYC Girl. In fact, the track “NYC Girl” is very much an homage to classic disco arrangements of the 1970s.

“This is an evolution for us,” said front man and songwriter Orion Simprini.  “We’re still a fun and colorful band, but at the core we’re serious songwriters who take the time to craft the songs we play. We wanted to try something different on the track ‘NYC Girl’ because we love disco as much as we love pop.”

Tracks included on NYC Girl are:

1.                  NYC Girl
2.                  Emerald Eyes
3.                  Vampire
4.                  Rollercoaster
5.                  Sweet Friend

The band is planning a record release show in New York, as well as select touring in the US and UK through 2011.

Since The Orion Experience first started, they have found top music supervisors for major network and cable outlets among their myriad of fans. They have been able to license their music multiple times – MTV for programs like “Laguna Beach,” and “The Hills,” Nickelodeon for programs like “iCarly,” and “Zoey 101,” as well as “The Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS) and “Windfall” (NBC). Biography, A&E, Breyer’s Ice Cream and Bravo have also licensed tracks from the band’s first two releases.

This mainstream music placement success has had an unexpected benefit as well. Perez Hilton called the track, “Obsessed With You,” an “indie pop gem” because it’s “so damn hooky”. Television cooking queen, Rachael Ray, booked the band at her SXSW Feedback Festival last year alongside She & Him, Jakob Dylan, Dr. Dog and others. Additional notable fans include producer Steve Lillywhite, and singers Alexa Ray Joel and Lady Gaga.
