The Pomegranates @ Founders, Grand Rapids, MI

This was my first time going to Founders for a show. They had a pretty decent setup, though sometimes the vocals got a little lost. And of course, parking was a pain downtown on a Saturday night, but I endured it for the good of the music. I found the other concert-goers to be polite, but not friendly. I arrived in time to see opener Jes Kramer entertain the massive

Sleepy Bear Music Festival 2012 (formally Dunegrass)

It’s a late night, Wednesday to be exact, sometime around 11pm. I am traveling up 131 North with my buddy, on way to Sleepy Bear music festival. This is the first year of Sleepy Bear, it was previously Dunegrass. Now this is a Michigan festival, Pure Michigan featuring some of the top bands in this state, as well as some headliners from around the US. Adding to the Michigan

Alice Cooper: The Strange Case of Alice Cooper

In the late 1970′s Alice Cooper entered a sanitarium in an effort to end his abuse of alcohol.  The following album, From the Inside, was about his stay as was the tour that followed. The live performance on The Strange Case of Alice Cooper captures the April 9, 1979 performance in San Diego. The first thing that caught my eye was how unhealthy Alice looked.  You can tell that

Foxy Shazam at the Intersection, Grand Rapids, 04.29.12

I arrived late, just in time for the main attraction: Foxy Shazam. I caught a bit of Maniac, who was quite the entertaining group of people. They were eccentric and the music was lively, plus one of the two singers kept doing something I could only describe as warbling. They were good though, I would definitely want to see them again when I have more time. It was fascinating

Megadeth & Rob Zombie at the Delta Plex, Grand Rapids, 05.18.12

It was 80 degrees outside. Inside it was a sea of black. This was the night of one of the most anticipated metal tour stops of the summer. Saying this, I have to add, I was surprised by the empty seats. This was not the turn out I had expected. The night started out with Lacuna Coil. Up until this point I knew next to nothing about this band

CHEVELLE at the Orbit Room in Grand Rapids 02.25.12

I know this review may be a bit late, but for that I blame no one but Chevelle. Every day since that one cold, frozen, February night of the 25th I have been living.  Something woke up inside of me that night.  Something that I had somehow, in someway, forgotten and it was like 2002 all over again when “Wonder What’s Next” was the only CD in my car’s

Danny Brown, Jon Connor, Tekh Togo, All Grand Rapids Hip Hop Team @ The Pyramid Scheme 11-25-11

It was an oddly warm Black Friday here in Grand Rapids with temps almost reaching 60 degrees. The Pyramid Scheme was the setting for a night of Hip Hop as the line up was heavy with professors laying down lyrical lessons. Made it to the venue around 9ish as doors open at the Pyramid Scheme, one of Grand Rapids newest venues is buzzing with energy and excitement. As I am walking in

Panic! at the Disco & Foxy Shazam at the Intersection, Grand Rapids 11.05.11

It was a toss up whom sold out the Intersection this night, Panic! At the Disco or Foxy Shazam; local openers Number the Stars certainly made little contribution.  There was this noticeable increase in cheers and applause as Number the Stars announced their last song of their set.  They had a certain appeal to young teenage girls but most of the crowd was at least 15 and didn’t
