November Reviews:

Happy Thanksgiving! And welcome to November's "When You Were Young". Keeping in accordance with the holiday, this month's selections are a couple of real turkeys. We will be traveling back in time to 1987, when I was still an eighth grade shrimp. In 1987, the Detroit Lions, our perennially beloved turkeys, lost their Thanksgiving Day game to the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 27-20, on their way to a 4-11 during the strike-shortened season. This would be the last full season coached by Darryl Rogers. He was replaced by Wayne Fontes toward the end of the following season. But enough about football let's talk turkey! And by turkey, I mean music.

Finally, this month's History lesson.

  • Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
  • The Beastie Boys became the first artists ever to be censored on American Bandstand.
  • Johnny Marr left one of the most influential bands, The Smiths, resulting ultimately in the breakup of that band.
  • Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue Nearly died of a heroin overdose. I guess he wasn't trying hard enough.

  • Well kids, that will be all for November's "When You Were Young" ... have a good Thanksgiving break, and don't eat too much!
